- It has three numbers of limbs than core winding that has two’
- It needed a large number of windings which make it costly
- Its fault removal is more difficult than the core transformer
- It used in less volge induterris compoent handlesing
- Forced air cooling system used for heat removal from this device
- The winding used in this transform called disc winding
- Its leakage reactance less than core
Difference Between Core Type and Shell Type Transformer
- The core transformer has a circuit having two vertical limbs and two horizontal structure known as yokes and these limbs comes with winding that structure is called core type transformer and shell type transformer has one mid limb and two external limbs primary and secondary windings are wounded on the central limb
- Winding surrounds the core of the transformer for the core transformer and shell type transformer has magnetic core around the windings
- In a core transformer, U and I shaped core is used, and in a shell transformer U shaped or in some cases E or I-shaped core used
- The rectangle shape core used in the shell transformer and core type transformer has a square core
- There are two limbs and two yoks for the core transformer and shell type transformer has 3 limbs and 2 yokes
- There are two magnetic circuitry for shell type transformer and core type transformer has one magnetic circuit
