Hello, friends, I hope you all are doing great. In today’s tutorial, we will discuss the Difference Between LVDT & RVDT. LVDT transforms the linear motion in the AC electric signal while RVDT transforms the angular motion into the electric signal.
In today’s post, we will have a detailed look at both LVDT and RVDT with the detailed and find their different parameter to compare them. So let’s get started with the Difference Between LVDT & RVDT.
Difference Between LVDT & RVDT
LVDT
- The device that changes the linear motion in the electric signal is called LVDT.
- Its full form is a Linear Variable Differential Transformer.
- Its core exists in a rectangular form.
- Its input voltage is from one volt to two forty volts root mean square.
- It is also called a differential transformer used to find the value of linear displacement.
- It is called a position transducer and offers an infinite cyle life.
- Its operating temperature range is twelve hundred Fahrenheit
- Its operating frequency is fifty to twenty kilohertz
- Its core structure is like a rectangle
- working on a voltage range of one to twenty volts
- It is used in power turbines, aircraft, and satellites.
- Their hysteresis value is less and has good repeatability
- It operates based on electromagnetic connection and no need of a physical connection
RVDT
- The device used to measure the angular motion by transforming it into the electric signal
- It consists of a rotor that is operated through outer force application.
- Its output is ac which is the result of the angular motion.
- Its operating frequency is from four hertz to twenty kilohertz
- Work on three volts
- Its operation is easy
- Linear output can be used for a certain application
- It used in different weapon system
- The full form of RVDT is a Rotatory Variable Differential Transformer.
- Its input voltage value is three volts root mean square.
- It works on ac and its primary side gets energized.
- Its operating life is larger
- It shows linear operation when AC is given to it for a certain angular motion
- Its main parts are a laminated stator, and a rotor having two poles.
- Its stator has 4 slots used on the primary and secondary sides.
- Accuracy is good
- Its price is a less small structure and less sensitivity
- The physical dimension of its core is cam.
- It provides a sensitivity of two to three millivolts per volt per degree of rotation.
- Its measurable range is up the ± forty degrees.
- It uses connectionless coupling so its operation lasts for a longer time interval.
LVDT vs RVDT
LVDT
- The full form is a Linear Variable Differential Transformer.
- It is a passive transducer that is used for the conversion of linear displacement into electrical signal.
- It comes with a rectanlge core
- It moves linearly
- Its main use is to measure linear displacement in the range of ± 100 μm to ± 25 cm.
- Its RMS value for input voltage is 1 V to 24 V.
- The working frequency range is 50 Hz to 20 kHz.
- It is highly sensitive and is about 2.4 mV/Volt/unit of movement.
RVDT
- The full form is a Rotatory Variable Differential Transformer.
- It is a passive transducer that transforms angular displacement into electrical signals.
- It comes with cam shaped core. Its core moves in circulation directions.
- It measures angular displacement with a range of + 40° to – 40°.
- RMS input voltage is up to 3 V.
- Its working frequency range is 400 Hz to 20 kHz.
- It is less sensitive and has a range of 2 mV to 3 mV per volt per degree of rotation.
What is the difference between resolver and RVDT?
- Resolver working is like the RVDT and basic difference is that the primary and secondary windings of RVDT are components of the stator and the rotator is primary. The basic benefit is that the resolver increases accuracy and 360 degrees of motion and RVDTs are +/- 90 degrees.
What is the difference between transducer and LVDT?
- The device that has a feature for the conversion of energy from one type into another type is called a transducer. The LVDT is a passive inductive transducer.
What is the working principle of LVDT?
- The LVDT is used for measuring displacement by relating certain signals at any position of the core. it is related to signal value to position occurrence through the electromagnetic coupling of an AC excitation signal with a primary winding and then the secondary windings.
Is RVDT a passive or active transducer?
- RVDT is passive transducer.
