The electronic device used as the most efficient light source is known as light emitting diodes or LEDs. These diodes are used to make a video display known as an LED display. LEDs are used on everyday devices from remote control to robots. The LED display is also used in-store signs and billboards.
LED panels are used for lighting instead of display purposes. The LED panel contains a number of LEDs and a standard LED display contains multiple LED panels. The Surface-mounted device (SMD) panel and the standard LED panel are two categories of LED panels available in the market. The standard panel uses a variety of LEDs that are mainly used for displaying large outdoor screens. Ordinary panels are more common compared to others and in this type of panel, a set of different colored LEDs are collected to form the square pixels used for display.
Indoor LED displays use SMD technology. SMD technology uses red, green and blue LEDs on the panel which are used to create light and illumination but not display. Built-in pixels are mounted on circuit boards and chips. The built-in pixels are smaller than the pinhead. So in SMD, the maximum viewing distance is reduced with a slight decrease in brightness. Both of the above make SMD technology better for home systems.
The LEDs used to make the LED display are one of the most important technologies of electrical equipment. A light emitting diode offers more benefits than other light emitting sources. This diode is made of a semiconductor chip surrounded by a transparent plastic case. A plastic case allows light to pass through it. As the positive or negative terminals of the diode are connected to the supply, electrons begin to trace semiconductor due to their chemical nature. Electron collisions emit energy in the form of photons or light. The emission of various colors, including infrared and ultraviolet light, depends on the semiconductor material used in the diode.
Today, LEDs are more popular than traditional light sources because of their many advantages. In traditional light sources a large amount of heat is generated and about half of the energy is dissipated in the form of heat. On the other hand, LED consumes very little energy and very little heat is produced compared to conventional light sources. These are the reasons why LEDs are used in robots and on all other devices.
The first LED display was monochromatic because at that time there was no LED blue light that worked properly. The creators of the first LED screen were recognized and received awards at the 29th Engineering Exposition held in Anaheim, California. The first LED display was developed in the late 1970s and after the development of active green LEDs, color display emerged in the early 1990s.
