How to Wire a 4-Way Switch
Power Supply Off
- Before starting the wiring process first off the power flow in the circuit through the circuit breaker, make sure that the power is completely off after the use of the voltage tester.
3-way switches Connection
- Make the connection of two 3-way switches through the use of 14/3 wire. Black wire connected with common terminals of every switch and connects red and white wire with other terminals. Ensure to cover the white wire with black tape for showing that it is a live wire.
4-way switch Connection
- Make the connection of a 4-way switch with two 3-way switches using 14/3 wire. Make a connection of black and red wires with 2 brass color points on one side of the switch, and connect the black and red wire of the other 14/3 wire with 2 brass colored points on any side of the switch.
Light Connection
- Now connect the light load with the 14/2 wire that is common from any 3-way switch. Connect the black wire with the black wire on the light fixture and make the connection of the white wire with the white wire on the light fixture. Accurately cap wire with cap nuts.
