1990 S Proof Washington Quarter Value
Proof quarters come in 3 styles: matte proof, mirror-like proof, and reverse proof. In 1990, the S mint made mirror-like proof coins that come with a mirror-like field and frosted device. They made shiny through before they struck the bank is burnished by tumbling it in a vat full of 6mm stainless steel balls.
Special proof dies used to strike coins scrubbed with horsehair to make the field extra glossy. The frosted part of the die is pickled with acid.
