History Of The 1978 Silver Dollar
It is known as the silver dollar but the 1878 silver dollar is not completely made with silver. Dollar coins were made with silver in some other years, but 1878 was not made.

1978 is the last year when Eisenhower dollars were made but made in larger numbers. The P mint made bout 26 million coins for circulation and the D mint made more thatn 33 million cons.

There are two designs of Eisenhower dollars, made for reverse by Frank Gasparro. These designs had an eagle on the reverse.
One design has an eagle of the type used in heraldry. Another coin design comes with a patch made to celebrate the landing of Apollo 11. 2nd design was approved. That comes with an eagle descending moon, wing raised, and olive branch.
The country name UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is also written with the motto “E pluribus unum” below. The denomination “One dollar”.

1978 Struck On Defective Planchet
The dollar coins of P mint 1978 were struck on the defective planchet. Cladding is not bonded accurately to the metal strip causing the front side of coin to come with a copper tone. Most details are removed on Eisenhower’s portrait.
These of MS63 grade are of 24 dollars and sold in action for more than 700 dollars.
1978 (P) No Mint Mark Dollar, 10 Percent Brockage
This error occurs when coins struck stick to die. When the die strikes another planchet, it affects the mirror of photo struck on metal. It occurs with another 1978 dollar coin struck in P mint.
