History Of The 1978 Lincoln Penny
The Lincoln penny was the first time made at the 100th birthday of the 16th USA president. It was the first coin that had a photo of any real person in USA history. The design of these coins was made by Victor D. Brenner in 1909 and this design has a photo of the president on the front side and the reverse side has two wheat stalks. This design was used for 50 years and on the 150th birthday of the president in 1959 reverse replaced with the Lincoln Memorial. The 1978 pennies are also part of the Memorial series coins that have reverse side Lincoln memorial. So these pennies are called Lincoln Memorial pennies.
The 1978 penny is the last series of coins made with 95 percent copper. The increases in prices of copper reduce its composition used for coins. There were 9,784,347,185 coins made in 1978 out of the 1978 No Mint mark penny 5,558,605,000, 1978 D penny 4,221,592,455, 1978 S proof penny 4,149,730.

Filled-in mint mark: If the mint mark is not accurately struck it results in some metallic part. Though they are not uncommon like other errors it is valuable.
